3-D maps, voice-based turn-by-turn navigation comes to Apple iOS 6

6 hrs.

Apple unveiled its own turn-by-turn navigation, with virtual voice assistant Siri giving the directions, and 3-D views as part of the upgrades in its iOS 6 mobile operating system announced Monday.

The company's own mapping application had been expected as a way for it to challenge Google Maps, considered by many to be one of the most important apps on the iPhone. ?In Apple's ongoing war with Google, Google Maps may soon be a distant memory, especially once iOS 6 comes out this fall.

"In iOS 6, we have built an entire new mapping solution from the ground up, and it is beautiful," said Apple senior vice president Scott Forstall.

All Apple's new worldwide?maps are vector-based; you can zoom in and out, rotate, see buildings in 3-D appear and disappear as part of what's being called the "Flyover" feature.

Noted Brian Barrett, Gizmodo editor, as he blogged?during Apple's presentation at the Worldwide Developers Conference in San Francisco: "This is the part of the demo where everyone on Google's geo team breaks out the Pepcid."

Traffic will be?monitored in real?time, with your estimated time of arrival?updated dynamically. If there's major?construction work or an accident on the freeway, and you need to be re-routed, you'll get a pop-up notification on your iOS device about that.?

The new Maps app "turn-by-turn navigation guides you to your destination with spoken directions, and the amazing Flyover feature has photo-realistic interactive 3-D views," Apple said in a news release.

The company's local search ? can you hear them now, Google? ?? includes information for more than 100 million businesses with "info cards that offer Yelp ratings, reviews, available deals and photos," the company said.

Apple has spent years "preparing to take mapping back," as Reuters noted recently.

The company is using technology from companies it has acquired specifically for that purpose, including 3-D mapping company C3 Technologies.

Last week, anticipating Apple's likely announcement, Google showed off its mapping capabilities that include soon-to-be-launched 3-D features.

Siri gets a step-up in her duties, and will be the voice users hear when getting guided directions.

"You can just ask Siri to take you somewhere, and you're on your way," said Forstall during Monday's presentation.

You'll also be able to ask Siri, as you're driving,?where the nearest places are to get fuel.?

Ohio school withholds diplomas for excess cheering

(AP) ? A suburban Cincinnati high school held onto four graduates' diplomas and required community service as punishment for what it describes as overly boisterous cheering by their families during the graduation ceremony.

The mother of one of the graduates, who was one of the leading tacklers on the Mount Healthy school football team, doesn't think he should get flagged for excessive celebration.

"What does that have to do with him?" Traci Cornist told Cincinnati radio station WDBZ.

She doesn't dispute there was a lot of loud cheering for Anthony Cornist. Cornist also said she teaches her children to be accountable for their own actions, but she doesn't think he should be punished for what other people do.

"It took away so much from how happy I was," she said. "It makes absolutely no sense."

Schools Superintendent Lori Handler said Wednesday the problem wasn't the loudness of the yells, but their long duration, which she said halted the ceremony.

After past disruptions, a new policy was implemented this year aimed at making sure that all parents can hear their children's names called and celebrated. When they ordered graduation tickets, parents agreed that "any disruptive behavior" would result in their child's diploma being held until 20 hours of community service is completed, she said.

"Our whole push for this was to make sure that every single student's name is heard and recognized," Handler said, adding that that most parents are pleased with the new rules. "Everybody understands that upfront."

Four seniors, of the 205 who went through graduation May 23, were denied their diplomas, she said. When they went to school to pick them up, they got a letter from the principal informing them it was being withheld because of "excessive cheering" by their guests.

The students are considered legal graduates, and are free to use their transcripts as they apply for college or jobs, Handler said.

Local school boards in Ohio have policymaking powers governing such things as guests' graduation ceremony conduct, and schools also sometimes hold diplomas until fees are paid, books returned or other issues are resolved.

Handler said the school was "very flexible" about how the students can complete the service, whether it's helping other students, cleaning up around the school or doing something for their communities. Also, other family members can perform service on behalf of the student.

She said the other penalized students aren't resisting, and that one had already completed community service to receive a diploma. She declined to release names or other information on them.

Cornist said Anthony is the second of her seven children to graduate from Mount Healthy, and she has another daughter due to graduate next year, so she's not looking for a big fight with the school. But she's very proud of her son and thinks he deserves his diploma.

"I want him to have it, and he shouldn't have to do anything," she told WDBZ on Tuesday. "He's a good kid. ... We'll see. I'm praying on it."

Free Article Directory: Home Improvement Advice: Fumigation For ...

By Albert Sung

The number one foe of antique and home furniture is undoubtedly the carpenter ant. Why so? Actually, this type of ant tunnel and build nests in soft woods making it the primary bane of antiques and wood home furniture. A number of pest management methods are available to deal with these pests, however the most effective among all of those seems to be fumigation.

Fumigation Defined

For those who do not know, fumigation is one of the most efficient and widely used pest management both in residential and commercial spaces. Usually, fumigation is very effective in killing and protecting wood home furniture and antiques from carpenter ants. Fumigation is done by utilising pesticides in the form of fumes that can easily reach the creepy crawlers lurking in the darkest areas of your home.

Advantages Of Fumigation

Carpenter ants are fond of soft wood, which is wood softened by moisture. Liquid types of ant control do slay these ants but in turn soften the lumber hence making it tempting for more ants to come in. Fumigation does not add dampness to the wood. Antiques and old home furniture more often than not, has tiny cracks and crevices that liquid pesticides can't reach, which is not a problem for fumigation.

The fumigation process produces a fine fume that can enter the tightest fissure with ease, making sure that the treatment action is thorough and long lasting. This is most especially helpful when it comes to piercing the nest of the carpenter ant, that is typically located in the innermost part of the wood that they have infected. Fumigation also has a long lasting effect, preventing the return of the ants. They don't have the disadvantage of liquid spray pesticides though. Even though these too have lasting effects, they also do considerable liquid damage to your precious antique home furniture.

Other Applications Of Fumigation

The application of fumigation isn't limited to treatment and control of ant's infestation. In fact, this method of pest control is equally effective in birds control and rat control. It is hailed as one of the most versatile pest control methods accessible in the market today.

California low on college graduates

California colleges and universities need to step up degree completion dramatically for the state's economy to flourish, a group of business and civic leaders said Thursday.

The state will need 2.3 million more college degrees and certificates than it is likely to produce by 2025, the 13-page report by California Competes said.

If legislators and higher-education leaders fail to act quickly, the group said, California will lose its economic and educational luster.

"We have to change business as usual in higher education," said Long Beach Mayor Bob Foster, one of the organization's board members. "This is about our future."

Other organizations, most notably the Public Policy Institute of California, also have highlighted the state's deficit of trained workers in recent years. Business leaders say the shortfall will force companies to move to other states or countries.

"The Silicon Valley is a knowledge-based economy," said Dennis Cima, senior vice president of the Silicon Valley Leadership Group, a coalition of South Bay businesses. "If we don't have college-educated people here in the Silicon Valley, then companies will go where the people are."

California Competes recommended changes, including improved decision-making at California's 72 community-college districts and determining which college degrees will be most valuable in the future. The state also needs an independent agency to guide California's higher-education decisions, the organization

said.

The state is on track to grant 3.2 million bachelor's and associate's degrees and vocational certificates in the next 13 years, researchers concluded, but 5.5 million will be needed by then. More jobs than ever require a college education, and California Competes said schools need to do a better job teaching critical-thinking and communication skills.

Several daunting obstacles stand in the way of improving the numbers. An alarming number of high school graduates are not ready for college math or English, and budget cuts have made it difficult to get classes at community colleges and California State University campuses.

The California Competes report is another reminder that the Legislature and governor need to show stronger-than-ever leadership on higher-education issues, said Steve Boilard, higher-education chief for the nonpartisan Legislative Analyst's Office.

"Too often people use a tight fiscal environment as an excuse not to make changes," he said. "This is exactly when you have to do things differently."

A recurring theme in reports on California's higher-education shortcomings is the state's lack of goals and failure to coordinate its 112 community colleges, 23 CSU campuses and 10 Univer-sity of California schools. Besides proposing a new coordinating body, Thursday's release called on lawmakers to create a higher-education vision.

Although colleges and universities rarely hear good news these days, California has reason for optimism, said Lande Ajose, California Competes' deputy director. State leaders understand the problems better than ever, she said, and are rethinking California's higher-education system.

"Even in the past six months, people are acknowledging that we have to move forward," Ajose said. "People aren't just waiting for the next big financial boom."

    Robo-cockroach is a real-life escape artist

    1 day

Ever pulled your hand back to swat a cockroach on the kitchen table only to find the insect has vanished before your eyes? It turns out it may have flipped over the ledge and is now clinging to the underside, according to researchers who?ve given the same ability to an insect-like robot.

This newly identified behavior of cockroaches was discovered as researchers at the University of California, Berkeley, were studying how the insects use their antennae to sense and cross gaps.

?As we made the gap wider, they would end up on the underside of the ramp,? Jean-Michel Mongeau, a graduate student in biophysics, said in a news release.?

To figure out what was happening, the team filmed the behavior with a high-speed camera then played it back in super slow mo.?

?We were amazed to see it was the cockroach?s hind legs grabbing the surface that allowed it to swing under the ledge,? he said.?

The researchers discovered a similar behavior in geckos and lizards. It?s apparently so wide-spread because it's an effective way for little critters?to get out of harm?s way.?

If insects and geckos can do this, why not a robot? The researchers teamed up with roboticists at the university and attached Velcro to the rear legs of a cockroach-inspired robot called DASH (dynamic autonomous sprawled hexapod).

It worked. Proof is in the video below.

The findings could lead to ?highly mobile search-and-rescue robots that can assist us during natural and human-made disasters,? the team writes in the June 6 issue of?PLoS ONE.?

Now, aren?t you glad cockroaches are so nimble that we?re compelled to figure out how they escape our swatters?

LinkedIn leak lesson: top 30 dumb passwords

Internet users continue to make things very easy for hackers.? A close inspection of a portion of the 6.5 million leaked LinkedIn passwords proves people keep making foolish password choices.? In fact, the most commonly used phrase in the password set appears to be ?link,? according to Boston-based security firm Rapid7, which created a top 30 list for msnbc.com. The list was generated by studying a sample of 160,000 passwords from the 6.5 million that have been released on the Internet.

What hacker would ever guess that your LinkedIn password had the work ?link? in it? Answer: All of them.

Second on the list of most common password phrases: ?1234.?? And because LinkedIn required seven-letter passwords, ?12345? wasn?t far behind, either, ranking sixth on the list (123456 was 15th.) Rounding out the top 10 were ?work,? ?god,? ?job,? ?angel,? ?the,? ?ilove,? and ?sex.?

?We are seeing a trend of Internet users trying to use simplistic passphrases on Internet sites,? said Marcus Carey, a security researcher?at Rapid7. ?They are (being hacked) because of the simple fact that many are using words that have been long considered bad passwords. Password-cracking algorithms include these bad passwords as a part of their recipe.? ?

The top 30 list generated by Rapid7 contains partial passwords used by consumers.? In other words, no one used the simple word ?link? as a password ? it was part of a password, such as ?BobLink? or ?LinkPass.?? That might seem to mitigate the danger, but it doesn?t offer much protection. Hackers spend hours guessing users? passwords, using tools that brute force their way through millions of combinations.? If a hacker knows someone used a seven-letter password, and part of that password is ?link,? the bad guy only has to crack what is essentially a three-letter password. That?s exponentially easier.? (How much easier? Assuming 94 potential password characters, based on the common keyboard layout, a three-digit password offers 830,000 possibilities; a seven-digit password offers 65 billion possibilities.)

?What people need to understand is that even with trusted sites such as LinkedIn there is still a possibility for massive compromise,? Carey said. ?The bigger the site, the more personal information is leaked, and the big boys on the block are the ones who are targeted the most.?

This experiment has been done before. In fact, a company named SplashData compiles a ?worst passwords? list annually from stolen passwords. You?ll see a lot of overlap between that list and this LinkedIn list. That means people aren?t learning. To that end, if you use any of the phrases on the list below to build your password, you should know that attaching ?!!!? to the end doesn?t make you safe.

    RED TAPE WRESTLING TIPS

It's important to note that even the strongest of passwords provided little defense against the LinkedIn hack (and the subsequently announced eHarmony hack).? Bad guys stole password files directly from the companies involved, so even "%R7^Tgh1" ( wasn't safe from their prying eyes. This doesn't lessen the lesson, however.? Consumers still should do all they can to protect themselves, and they don't.

Words that are in the dictionary shouldn't be in your password, but unusual characters should be.? Names on your Facebook page -- such as your dog's name?or high school mascot -- shouldn't be in your password, either. That of course makes remembering your password a challenge, but here's a trick that security professionals recommend: think of a sentence that you can remember, and take the first letter of every word in the sentence as your password. For example: My daughter Julie was born on November 1 would yield a password of "MdJwboN1." Throw in an exclamation point at the end to show your love for your daughter, and you have a pretty strong, unique password.? For more tips, vist this page at US-CERT.

Password scrambler says his program 'no longer safe'

    6 hrs.

With?LinkedIn,?eHarmony and Last.fm all investigating password leaks, the author of a popular?password hash?algorithm is urging websites that have more than 50,000 passwords to stop using his program, known as md5crypt.

"The md5crypt password scrambler was created in 1995 by yours truly and was, back then, a sufficiently strong protection for passwords," wrote?Poul-Henning Kamp?in a blog post Thursday. "I consider it no longer safe for any use."

Since 1995, increased computing power means the algorithm is as "prone to brute-force attacks as the DES-based UNIX crypt was back in 1995: Any 8-character password can be found in a couple of days," the Danish software developer wrote.

It appears that such brute-force attacks are what may have happened at the three social sites, and while none of them have gone into details about the incidents, Kamp put out a plea to other?large websites to discard his widely used password algorithm, which he says has outlived its usefulness.

"As the author of md5crypt, I implore everybody to migrate to a stronger password scrambler without undue delay," he wrote.?

Chet Wisniewski, senior security advisor at Sophos, told msnbc.com that MD5, as it's also?called, "has been known to be weak for almost 10 years and should never be used where security is concerned."

Cameron Camp, ESET security researcher, said that MD5 "encryption, and cryptography in general has always been a game of leapfrog, where the complexity of encryption is related to the power of computers used at the time ? get faster computers and you can use/break more complex cryptography."

The "catch," he told msnbc.com, is to "create steadily more robust cryptography that's still usable in a password context on a busy website. If the website software has to spend too much time/resources verifying your password, the system will seem slow to the user. This is especially true when the user may be one of a vast pool of total users, where the system has to search and verify quickly, as in LinkedIn's case."

Camp says by "salting, or adding a few extra characters to the mix as it gets encrypted, it makes decryption much tougher. So now, more advanced cryptography like Blowfish and/or SHA-1 will need to be used to 'raise the bar,' especially when used with salting. And in a few years we will need still more complex cryptography to slow/stop the next generation of password crack attempt."

Paul Kocher, president and chief scientist at Cryptography Research, told msnbc.com?the LinkedIn breach of what may be 6.5 million passwords "was?particularly bad because, when they hashed passwords, the only thing that was included in the hash function input was the password itself. They didn't include anything specific to the particular user."

As a result he said, "it's?possible for an attacker to hash a candidate password, then check whether any user matches the hash. This means that the password cracking process can be run in parallel for all users at once."

LinkedIn, he said, "happened to use SHA-1 for the hashing, but the failure to include an entry-unique value ??a "salt" in crypto-speak?? is independent of the choice of hash function. They also used only a single hashing operation and allowed users to pick weak passwords.? As a result, hackers have been able to recover the majority of the passwords in the compromised LinkedIn password hash file."

In the meantime, while you may not be into cryptography, you can learn more about what to do ??and not do ? when it comes to choosing passwords. Check out Red Tape's "30 dumb passwords people still use."

Lobbyist tied to Sen. Harry Reid pleads not guilty

RENO, Nev. (AP) ? A former developer and lobbyist with long ties to Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid and Nevada's political elite says he's not guilty of violating federal campaign contribution laws.

Harvey Whittemore stood Thursday wearing a white shirt, blue suit and leg chains for a brief arraignment in U.S. District Court in Reno.

Whittemore pleaded not guilty to all four counts in an indictment stemming from campaign contributions of more than $100,000 on a single day in 2007 to an unnamed elected federal official.

U.S. Magistrate Judge William Cobb said the 59-year-old Whittemore can remain free pending trial Aug. 7.

Whittemore contributed to numerous politicians including Republican Sen. Dean Heller and Democratic Rep. Shelley Berkley.

But records show only Reid received donations of more than $100,000 on a single day in 2007.

Flame virus hijacked Windows' last line of defence

    Paul Marks, senior technology correspondent

When a novel computer threat hits the Windows ecosystem, Microsoft usually broadcasts an update online pretty quickly. That way, 900 million PC users can "patch" the vulnerability that let the threat thrive in the first place. So a nightmare scenario for security engineers has always been this: an attacker creates a smart, spoofed Microsoft update that lets them install a virus rather than a patch.

Well, it has happened at last.

Engineers poring over Flame, the powerful (and massive) cyberespionage program that Iranian authorities reported finding in a number of industrial and military facilities last week, have discovered a module among its 20 megabytes of attack tools that creates updates that look like they hail from Microsoft. This marks a watershed in computer (in)security and one for which there is currently no catch-all preventative measure. The reason? Update authenticity relies on the use of digital "certificates" that can be faked.

"Microsoft is aware of active attacks using unauthorised digital certificates derived from a Microsoft Certificate Authority," says the Redmond, Washington-based firm in a 3 June security advisory. "An unauthorised certificate could be used to spoof content, perform phishing attacks, or perform man-in-the-middle attacks."

It's such a "man-in-the-middle" attack - a certificate posing as an honest broker between the user's PC and Microsoft - that allows Flame's fake update to go ahead. Although that certificate has now been revoked, the mechanism revealed here will doubtless be a cue for copycats. "Techniques used by this malware... could also be leveraged by less sophisticated attackers to launch more widespread attacks," warns Microsoft.

But don't worry, Flame probably isn't going to hit your PC. It is a highly targetted "toolkit" that appears to be undertaking reconnaissance for future Stuxnet-style attacks on Iranian (or at least Middle Eastern) infrastructure. The US/Israeli-developed Stuxnet worm invaded Iran's industrial computers and shook almost 1000 uranium centrifuges to pieces - but it needed to know the make, model and connectivity of the controlling computers to do so. Flame appears to have the national security pedigree of Stuxnet and its sister Duqu - and is highly targetted at stealing PDF files, computer-aided design drawings and Microsoft Office documents, presumably so that future software-based attacks can be engineered.

"This is the first time Microsoft Update has been patched. And it's a big deal indeed," says Mikko Hypponen of antivirus software house F-Secure in Finland. "However, we're lucky, because this attacker is not interested in infecting large numbers of computers. This technique has only been used in very limited and targeted attacks in The Middle East."

"The Microsoft Update hack used in Flame must have been very valuable to the attackers. We should assume they've used it in other, possibly unrelated attacks at the same time, since they must have known it would be discovered."

As for the spoof patch risk, however, all's fine: Microsoft has released a Windows update.

Nicotine begins to be removed from the body immediately after the last cigarette, but will take up to six weeks to become completely expelled.

To really quit smoking, it is important for a smokers to cleanses their body of nicotine and other harmful chemicals absorbed from smoking for two reasons: The detoxification process provides positive reinforcement of the smoking cessation process, and the increased speed of the removal of nicotine from the body reduces the duration of the physical symptoms of nicotine withdrawal.

Partial saturation of nicotine in neurological receptors causes the cravings for nicotine, and will not subside until the nicotine saturation level is either 100% (more nicotine is consumed) or 0% (all nicotine is removed). The shorter duration of cravings and nicotine withdrawal symptoms will increase the likely hood of success for anyone trying to quit smoking cigarettes.

The herb burdock is a detoxification herb and is traditionally used as a blood purifier and as a diuretic, removing excess fluids from the body. Burdock root helps remove most of the toxins absorbed by the body while smoking, most especially toxins built up in the liver and gallbladder. Because burdock aids in the removal of toxins from the blood it helps the body expel nicotine faster and will cut down the time of the physical cravings for cigarettes.

Sarsaparilla root is also used for detoxification, helping to remove chemicals that are built up in the body. It cleanses the blood and organs. Sarsaparilla?s main steroid sarsaponin binds to toxins in the blood so that the body can easily remove them.

Both these ingredients are in Quit Tea assist anyone stop smoking. There are other herbs that can help cleanse the body, like Milk Thistle. Milk Thistle is especially useful in restoring liver function and cleaning out the liver, which absorbs most of the toxins. It is also an anti-inflammatory and will help reduce some physical pain and inflammation during the smoking cessation process.

Alan Grayson: Yesterday: The Lowest Interest Rates in History

Yesterday, the 10-year Treasury note hit its lowest interest rate in history. For the third day in a row.

I didn't hear that reported. Did you?

Treasury notes started trading in substantial amounts during World War I, almost 100 years ago. Until Wednesday of this week, the lowest interest rate in history on 10-year notes was 1.672 percent. That was in February 1946, 12 years before I was born. (That rate re-appeared, for a few brief moments, last September.)

On Tuesday, the rate for 10-year notes closed at 1.73 percent. On Wednesday, the rate dropped past the all-time low, and kept going, finishing at 1.62 percent. Thursday set a new all-time low, finishing at 1.58 percent. On Friday, the rate for 10-year notes finished at 1.47 percent.

That's a 15 percent drop. In three days.

The yield on 10-year Treasury notes actually plunged all the way down to 1.44 percent during Friday trading. That's the new all-time low. Until Monday, at least.

Here are some questions that come to mind:

    Why is this happening?

Is this good news or bad news? (Hint to Obama Administration: you can take credit for it.)

    Will the trend continue?

What does it mean for the middle class? For mortgages and car loans? For corporate profits? For fiscal policy?

    Who gains and who loses?

Unfortunately, there are no answers to any of these questions today, because reaching a 100-year low in interest rates is not considered news.

Here are the headlines yesterday from the Associated Press:

    1. The unemployment rate rose from 8.1 percent to 8.2 percent.
    2. The U.N. Human Rights Council voted to condemn Syria.
    3. There was a large fire in New Mexico (video!).
    4. A black bear wondered into a schoolyard (more video!).

Here are the headlines yesterday from ABC News:

    1. A teacher slapped a student.
    2. A roommate issued a humorous apology for taking someone else's milk from the fridge.
    3. "Why Idiot Humans Are Best Cyber Weapon"
    4. A new record was set for world's longest Ferris wheel ride.
    5. A mother choked a bully.

I hate to be a scold. I really do. But important things are happening. Can someone in the media, or among our so-called leaders, please pay some attention? Please?

You can't lead people anywhere if your eyes are closed.

    Courage,

    Alan Grayson

Why Bother Registering My Trademark? ? Law ? Trademarks | Raw ...

    betterluck.jpg

The number of businesses that simply choose and adopt some word, phrase, or design as a trademark without a second thought is amazing. Not only do these businesses fail to consider whether their newly adopted trademarks infringe the trademark rights of third parties, the businesses usually also fail to consider whether they should protect their trademarks.

A business ? whether a sole proprietorship, partnership, limited liability company, or corporation ? should evaluate the protection of any trademark it adopts. There are several reasons to protect a trademark. One of the most important reasons is to prevent some third party from later adopting the identical or highly similar mark. A third party who adopts your mark later in time is known as a junior user. If you allow a junior user to register the mark before you, it is possible that the junior user may cut off your right and ability to use your mark entirely or within certain geographical boundaries. Imagine having to all of a sudden change your trademark because you couldn?t be bothered registering it and protecting your rights.

Another reason to register your mark is to put people on notice that you are claiming rights in your trademark and obtain additional damages should you need to sue somebody in court to enforce your trademark rights. The additional remedies provided by a registration can be a powerful tool in enforcing your rights.Once you have made the decision to register your trademark, the next decision becomes where and how do I register my trademark. If you are purely an intrastate business (i.e., you do not sell goods or provide services outside your state), then you will most likely want to file your trademark with your state?s trademark office, which is usually the Office of the Secretary of State.

If you are providing your goods or services across state lines (or if you intend to do so), then you almost certainly file your trademark with the United States Patent and Trademark Office (?USPTO?). A registration with the USPTO protects you for the entire United States, so it is a lot more useful than a state registration. And you don?t need to be selling goods or services in every state, you just need to do so across state lines (for example, selling goods to one other state or another country would work).

After you have decided whether to register your trademark at the state or federal level, the next step is to file the trademark. The trademark registration process is very complex and there are a lot of pitfalls that can sink someone unfamiliar with trademark law and the registration process. That is why it you should really find and hire a good trademark attorney. While some businesses may not want to spend, or believe they cannot afford, to hire a trademark attorney, filing and registering a trademark is relatively inexpensive ? at least compared to other legal services, such as filing a patent application or litigation. Therefore, it really is best to just bite the bullet and hire a professional to protect what may be your business? most important asset, your trademark.

Real estate sales drop, prices jump in April in Myrtle Beach area ...

MYRTLE BEACH ? Grand Strand real estate sales dropped in April even though some local Realtors said business was good for them that month.

Single-family home sales along the Grand Strand declined 2 percent in April compared to the same month last year, according to the Multiple Listing Service. Condo sales dropped 8 percent in April compared to April 2011, according to the MLS. Cash sales of houses and condos have also dropped from 51 percent of all sales to 48 percent of all sales.

?Watermark was very busy in April so we are not mimicking those numbers,? said Radha Herring, the broker-in-charge of Watermark Real Estate Group. ?We were busy with contracts in April, especially for condos because people like to close before the summer season begins. May was extremely busy as well. This is the season where we sell a lot of condos and we?re in line for June. We?re seeing a steady incline, about 20 percent uptick from this time last year.?

Auto Car Insurance - Avoid These Mistakes When Shopping For ...

Finding cheap auto insurance has never been easier. There are so many web sites out there that specialize in finding cheap auto insurance that anyone can find the cheapest automobile insurance they qualify for. Here are three common mistakes people make when searching for cheap auto insurance that can be easily avoided.

The first mistake people make is that they do not buy enough coverage. The auto insurance policy will be cheaper if you purchase less coverage, but this can have disastrous effects if there is an accident and you are underinsured. It is smart to search for an inexpensive auto insurance quote, but it is dangerous to do so at the expense of the coverage that you need.

The next mistake people often make is that they do not receive quotes from more than one or two places. People automatically assume that all companies will price their policies in the same way so they think that comparison shopping is not worth it. This is a major mistake that can cost you hundreds of dollars a year. Some companies will offer you a better deal than others.

Another thing to find out before buying an insurance policy is how helpful the claims center and customer service people are. Calling the insurance company after an accident can be a very difficult experience. You want to be certain that your company is helpful and responsive to your needs before you buy the policy.

Purchasing auto insurance is confusing, but can be less so if you follow the advice given above. By using an online service to find your coverage you will be saving not only time, but your hard earned money as well. The hardest part of purchasing auto insurance is obtaining the quote and by doing this online you will get it out of the way before you ever even speak to an agent.
