Long-distance relationships are hard to maintain...

It has been 40 months since Yoseob last seen Dongwoon face-to-face, when they gave each other one last, tight, long warm hug before bidding and waving goodbye to one another when the taller guy is in the departure hall?that was the last time their eyes met through the glass wall.

Sure, the two of them have been communicating through the internet and phone. Sometimes Dongwoon would call when it's at night in Seoul?really late at night?because he forgot about time difference between South Korea and United Kingdom. There are also times when Dongwoon would call Yoseob in the morning, when it's midnight at where he is. It was only during special occasions that Dongwoon and Yoseob would finally have the chance to chat through Skype. They had to match up their time?summer and winter breaks are the best times for them.

However, things are getting more and more busy for Dongwoon. Slowly, he had to attend to more long lectures and being a filial son he is, the latter would head to his workplace straight after school until night because he refused to let his parents foot his expensive school fees, at least, not fully. It must have been hard for him, thought Yoseob as he is fully aware of what sort of person his lover is.

Dongwoon is a sweetheart, he rarely vent his frustration on anyone. Attending to lectures and participating in group projects are tiring enough, but he still had to work after long hours in school. To add on more, Dongwoon work as a waiter in a renowned restaurant. He has to be polite all the time when working. After working, he has to complete his pile of school assignments too.

Yoseob did not call Dongwoon all this while, not because he is mad, but because he understands. Many times, he did want to call and ask how's the other doing right now, but he didn't want to be a bother. He knows that no matter how hard things are for Dongwoon, he would never lose that bright smile of his, and it is such a tiring task to do, especially when you are alone in another country.

So he would wait for Dongwoon to call, which would happen only once or twice a month. Sometimes, Dongwoon could only have spare a couple of minutes making a phone call to Yoseob, briefly updating him about his condition. Each time, Dongwoon would say, ?I'm doing fine right now. The people are nice to me and I am lucky to meet them,? in a heavy, drained voice tinged with his usual carefree tone. Not that Yoseob is being skeptical, but he is always wondering if Dongwoon is telling the truth or not. Is he really doing well? Have someone ever tried to bully him because he's a foreigner? Did he skip meals often? Did he... see someone who's better? Many worrying questions taunted Yoseob for the past three years.

It is pretty tiring for Yoseob too, who works as a vocal teacher for trainees who are working hard to debut as singers in future. He has to use his voice almost everyday, sometimes even strain it to scold because students were not performing well. It had never failed to hurt him every single time whenever Yoseob scolds and yells at them, but it needed to be done. He has to lecture the students in order to push them to a higher level.

Even as a teacher, Yoseob feels sad whenever he loses his voice. But thinking about Dongwoon would always revive his bits of motivation to carry on working the next day. I am not alone, Yoseob would always encourage himself. Dongwoon is working hard too, so he must not slack off.

Yoseob sighed softly to himself as he put up his umbrella, walking under the quiet rain. His eyes never left the ground. He could hear vehicles moving, causing the water puddles to splash a little. Raindrops hit the umbrella above him, dan, dan, dan, the sound they made were strangely addictive to lonely Yoseob's ears. His eyes remained down on the floor, where there are puddles of rain water here and there.

When he reached the middle of the sidewalk, Yoseob realized he's at the wrong pavement. He stopped, turned and looked up, only to find himself jaw-dropped slightly. His lips parted, eyes glistened with disbelief. He is wondering if he is hallucinating right now. With his heart beating against his ribcage as if it's going to break out through his chest and heartbeats drumming in his ears so loudly that he couldn't hear anything made by his surroundings, Yoseob swallowed the lump in his throat as the figure at the opposite side of the small road flashed him that gentle signature smirk of his.

The young man seemed to take forever to make his way to him. Yoseob could only watch the man make his way to him, like a child who is lost in the middle of the crowd. His heart feels queasy and he could feel countless butterflies on his stomach. The nearer the young man is to him, the more Yoseob noticed how blurry his vision got. It didn't take long for him to realize that he's already in tears. Yoseob's breath is getting more and more shallow from his rapid heart rate.

Finally, the tall, tanned young man is standing in front of Yoseob with a transparent umbrella in his hand. ?Hey,? said the latter, his smirk widened into a grin now. A drop of Yoseob's tears fell, landing on his cheek.

?'Hey'?? repeated Yoseob in a not-so-excited tone, his brows raised in a sarcastic manner. ?It's been eight frickin' months since you last contacted me; you did not even write to me. I was so worried about you! Do you even know how I struggled between having faith in you and my insecurity? About how you would have left me for other people who's better than me? I was wondering everyday, if there's anything happened to you too and now you're appearing in front of me out of the blue, without even mentioning anything about your return to me, and now, you say,? he paused to take a short breath, ?'hey'??

Dongwoon's grin fell immediately at the sight of Yoseob's tears and words. He took a step forward. ?I'm... I'm really sorry, Yoseob... I really... I really am sorry...? He reached out for Yoseob's forearm, expecting himself to be rejected but was surprised when the other did nothing but stare at him.

Yoseob is examining Dongwoon; wondering how long has it been since he last seen him in such a short distance between them, breathing in the same space instead of under the same sky, looking into each other's eyes in an unbreakable contact, and having to feel each other's warmth through soft touches. He is still as handsome as how he was before he left for England three years ago?but it seemed like he's lost some weight there?he still as warm as how he felt like when they last hugged, and those eyes?they are still as bright, deep, passionate and sincere as how they were like when Yoseob last gazed into them.

Yoseob could feel himself falling deeper in love for this guy named Son Dongwoon now, and he couldn't contain his overflowing affection, not especially when Dongwoon is holding onto him.

It startled Dongwoon when Yoseob tossed away his baby blue umbrella and pounced onto him, causing him to drop his umbrella too. His toes tipped, arms encircled around his long neck and crashing their lips together in a tender, yet eager manner. As soon as their lips met, Yoseob felt as if all the loneliness he had felt for the past three years all went away, like poof, and disappeared into thin air. His tears of melancholy soon turned into tears of overwhelming joy as his lips formed a small, shy smile against the other's lips.

Dongwoon blushed when he heard students who are most probably from Yoseob's teaching institution whispering when walking them past.

?Hey, isn't that Yang sunsaeng-nim??

?Yeah, it seemed like it is! My, he has a boyfriend? That's so unexpected of him!?

?But my gosh, aren't they adorable! A kiss in the rain!?

?Hey, let's not interrupt them! Let's go!?

Both of the two young men were drenched in rain. The shorter man's lips remained against the taller's. Yoseob could feel their heart getting closer and closer each second now. Everything, all those loneliness are worth for it, thought Yoseob as he cried more.

Soon, Dongwoon wrapped his arms around Yoseob's slender waist, supporting him before kissing him back delicately. Yoseob slightly opened his eyes, curious of how Dongwoon looks like whenever they kiss. He blushed in seven deep shades of red, he squeezed his eyes to contain his shyness at how affectionate and gentle Dongwoon is; he could only tighten his arms around the other's neck to deepen the kiss.

The kiss tasted a mixture of spearmint (probably Dongwoon was chewing onto a gum earlier on) and the rain. Yoseob had never thought of wanting to share a kiss with his lover in the rain before?not even once it had crossed his mind before because he find it overrated and silly. But truthfully speaking, he is enjoying everything single bit of this moment right now.

Long-distance relationship may be hard to maintain, but they are not impossible.
